ABOUT

When the realization hit me, it hit hard. I'd only climbed eight steps to the bathroom when I passed out while peeing. It was a stark wake-up call I couldn't ignore.

My name is Kortney Lee, and at that moment, I weighed a staggering 305 pounds. Unhealthy eating habits had taken a toll; my diet consisted mainly of sugar, with no regard for its impact on my health.

I couldn't ignore the consequences any longer, especially with my wife Cassie by my side and our two beautiful children, Korden and newborn Carter, depending on me. Holding my newborn son, I realized that if I didn't change, I was not only risking my life but also robbing my family of the time they deserved with their father.

That day, I made a decision. No more excuses, no more turning a blind eye. I needed to educate myself about proper nutrition and get active. I began by researching healthier alternatives to the sugar-loaded processed foods that had dominated my diet for too long.

It wasn't easy. Breaking free from my sugar addiction felt like escaping quicksand. But my children and Cassie were my motivation to keep going, their smiles driving me forward.

I started by gradually incorporating healthier foods into my diet, ensuring a balance of lean proteins, whole grains, and plenty of fruits and vegetables. I also committed to walking for 20 minutes a day, setting a meeting on my calendar to ensure consistency.

As the numbers on the scale dropped, so did my insecurities and doubts about our future. I was becoming the husband and father I had always wanted to be. Cassie was my rock, providing unwavering support and cheering me on every step of the way.

Years later, I had shed an incredible 100 pounds and founded several organizations to help others. The first, SnackingWell, focused on providing unprocessed, healthy snacks to underserved communities. Realizing that my lack of education and access to healthier snacks had contributed to my health problems, I wanted to make a difference.

The second organization, Community Groceries, aimed to provide affordable groceries to those in need. During my own journey, I struggled with the cost of meal planning and often had to buy ingredients in bulk, leading to weight gain when I strayed from my diet. Community Groceries was my solution to this problem.

The third organization, Vowels, a non-profit, aimed to improve the lives of children by ensuring they have access to proper nutrition.

My life had done a complete turnaround, and I couldn't be more grateful. The bathroom incident that had sparked my transformation now felt like a distant memory.

I now have the energy and vitality to fully enjoy all the precious moments with my children. Whether it's playing catch in the backyard with Korden or cradling Carter in my arms, I cherish every second, knowing that I've given them the best version of their father.

Looking back on my journey, I realized it wasn't just about losing weight. It was about reclaiming my life, my health, and my happiness and wanting to do the same for others. And it all began with that eye-opening moment in the bathroom.

To anyone out there struggling with their weight and unhealthy habits, know that it's never too late to make a change. Take that first step, educate yourself, and surround yourself with support. Because in the end, the rewards far outweigh the challenges.
